Grading - Report Cards

Physical Education is assessed for all students in grades 1-4. Each quarter, students will earn a grade in each of three catagories; Skills, Effort, and "Works Well With Others". The following is how they are assessed on a daily basis.
Physical Education (P.E) - Course Outline
Research clearly shows a high, positive, correlation between the amount of physical activity a student gets and the student’s grades and behaviors. Physical Education at the Elementary level is about being active and developing the basic movement skills that will serve the student for the rest of their lives. Everyone has different talents and abilities, but everyone also needs to be able to accomplish a few basic movements for example;
1. Spatial awareness
a. Personal space, shared space, pathways
2. Body control
a. Balance, nonlocomotor & locomotor skills, speeds, levels, force
3. Receiving an object & Propelling an object
a. Stopping, catching, controlling & Throwing, striking, kicking
4. Basic offensive and defensive concepts
5. How to develop & maintain a healthy fitness level – Strength, Endurance, Flexibility & Body Comp.
Among other skills.
Student Expectations:
1. Students must come to class properly attired.
a. Athletic shoes w/socks
b. Appropriate clothing to move in – not to tight or loose – preferably t-shirt and shorts.
c. No – food, hats or jewelry for safety
2. Student will both, try their best at all activities, and will participate in all activities to the best of their ability.
Safety Rules - NO – running, falling/sliding, screaming or touching (other people or objects), unless it is part of the activity that they are doing.
Grading - Participation
1. Students will be graded daily on a 5-point system
a. Student arrives properly attired = 1 point
b. Student participates in warm-up & fitness activities to the best of their ability = 1 point
c. Student participates in the lesson-focused activity to the best of their ability = 1 point
d. The students attitude and cooperation with the teacher = 1 point
e. The students attitude and cooperation with their fellow students/peers = 1 point.
Assessments – students will be assessed on learning using; teacher, peer, and self-assessments and observations.
